A thread running through ordinary days

Threads of the Word is a pastoral ministry of weekly biblical meditations, written for ordinary readers in the middle of ordinary weeks.

The ministry

Threads of the Word is the English face of Au fil de la Parole, a meditation ministry created in Belfort, France, by Pastor Patrick Millecam. The original meditations are published in French; this site brings them, carefully translated, into English.

Each meditation is short — most can be read in two or three minutes. The aim is not to give a sermon, nor a theological treatise, but to offer a single image or question from Scripture that a reader can carry through their day.

The form is constant: an anchor verse, a story or image drawn from ordinary life, a quiet turn toward Christ, and a question left open for the reader. The meditations are written in the conviction that the Word of God is alive — and that it works in ordinary lives more often through small, contemplative pauses than through grand declarations.

The translations

The English meditations on this site are not machine translations. They are crafted by hand — sentence by sentence — to preserve the cadence, the tone, and the pastoral warmth of the French originals. Scripture quotations follow the English Standard Version (ESV).

Each translation goes through a verification step in which the English version is translated back into French and compared with Patrick's original — so that nothing important drifts in passage from one language to the other.

The thread

The French title Au fil de la Parole carries a double image. Au fil de means both “along the thread of” and “in the course of” — the Word that runs like a thread through the days, and the days that unfold along the Word. Threads of the Word tries to keep that double meaning alive in English: a thread one can pick up at any moment, follow a little further, and put down again until next time.

Evangelical Pastor · Belfort, France

Patrick is an evangelical pastor based in Belfort, in eastern France. His ministry centers on pastoral care, biblical teaching, and writing. He began writing weekly meditations as a quiet way to offer a small thread of Scripture to people who would not necessarily have time, or energy, to read a long text — but who longed for a moment of recollection in their week.
